Broad range of support

AskIzzy – answer a few quick questions to find a range of supports based on your needs and location. 

New Farm Neighbourhood Centre – local referrals, social activities, health services, food relief and support groups. 

Brisbane Relief Hub provides a range of support services for those in need of food, financial help and social connection. 

Housing and Homelessness 

Brisbane Youth Service helps create new futures for young people who are homeless or vulnerable through housing and support services. 

3rd Space – this Fortitude Valley drop-in centre offers hot showers and meals as well as access to support workers, medical, mental health, law, tenancy, employment, financial support and other services. 

Homeless Hotline – a Queensland Government phone information and referral service for people who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of homelessness. Call 1800 474 753, the phone line is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 

Queensland Government support to stay in your rental home – in certain situations, you can access financial support towards rental costs as well as help to resolve disputes. 

Mental health and crisis support 

Headspace Australia is Australia’s National Youth Mental Health Foundation, providing early intervention mental health services to 12-25 year olds. Brisbane centres can be found here

Lifeline is a non-profit organisation that provides free, 24-hour telephone crisis support service in Australia. 

Beyond Blue provides information and support to help everyone in Australia achieve their best possible mental health. 

Private counselling and psychology services – We may be able to recommend some LGBTQIA+ friendly counsellors. Please email pastor@mccbrisbanechurch.org with your phone number and location and we will be in touch to let you know if there is anyone we are aware of who may be a good fit.  

RESOURCES AND SUPPORT SPECIFICALLY FOR THE LGBTQIA+ COMMUNITY  

Peer support and youth support 

Diverse Voices works alongside QLife, which provides Australia-wide anonymous, LGBTQIA+ peer support and referral for people wanting to talk about a range of issues including sexuality, identity, gender, bodies, feelings or relationships. 

MCC Rainbow Parents – a peer support group for Christian parents who love God and love their LGBTQIA+ children.  

PFLAG is an international LGBTQIA+ and ally peer support group that has been operating in Australia for over 30 years. They are primarily committed to helping parents of LGBTQIA+ children of all ages, and they provide referrals for youth. 

Open Doors Youth Service provides youth support services to enrich the lives of young people with diverse genders, sex, sexualities & bodies. 

Transcendence is a peer support group facilitated by Relationships Australia, open to for anyone aged 18 or older who is part of the transgender, gender diverse, and nonbinary communities and/or questioning their gender identity.   

Transilience group sessions are facilitated by Relationships Australia for transgender and gender-diverse children between ages 8 and 12 and their parents and/or caregivers.  

 

Asylum seekers and multicultural networks 

Third Queer Culture – a peer social group for LGBTQIA+ people from diverse backgrounds who have an experience of seeking safety in Australia. 

Queensland Rainbow Hub – a safe space to support and empower international LGBTQIA+ students and friends in Queensland. 

Relationship support 

Relationships Australia provides a number of relationship support services, including Queerlationships, a workshop for individuals from LGBTQIA+ communities who want to strengthen their relationships with themselves and others. 

 

Support for victims and survivors of sexual abuse and domestic and family violence 

DV Connect helps Queenslanders find pathways to safety, away from domestic, family and sexual violence. 

LGBTQ Domestic Violence Awareness Foundation supports victims and survivors of domestic violence and abuse through awareness, education and breaking down barriers to accessing help. 

Another Closet offers support for LGBTQIA+ victims of domestic and family violence. 

Bravehearts advocates for the prevention and treatment of child sexual abuse. 

 

Legal support and police matters 

The LGBTI Legal Service provides free and confidential legal advice throughout Queensland. 

Queensland Police Service has LGBTQIA+ liaison officers available on request.
